Simons says yes to PSV

Timmy Simons has signed an enhanced contract at PSV Eindhoven, committing the Belgian international midfielder to the Dutch club until the summer of 2011.

Long-term commitment
The midfielder's deal was due to expire in 2009 but the two parties have now agreed to add two years to that arrangement with the option of an additional 12 months. The contract suggests that the 30-year-old will see out his career with the Dutch Eredivisie champions. "In principle that is true, but in football you never know for certain," he said. "However, it is a clear signal to my family, this great club and all PSV supporters."

Model professional
Simons has succeeded Phillip Cocu as captain this season, and PSV sporting manager Stan Valckx was thrilled to have secured his services. "He has grown into one of the leaders at PSV," Valckx said. "He is a model professional who also puts his stamp on the team off the pitch." Simons arrived at PSV from Club Brugge KV in 2005 and has won the league in his first two seasons in the Netherlands. PSV travel to FC Internazionale Milano for their next UEFA Champions League fixture on Tuesday.
