Germany striker Miroslav Klose will leave FC Bayern München at the end of the month after failing to agree a new contract.

The 32-year-old – who scored just once in 20 Bundesliga appearances this season, eleven as a substitute – will become a free agent when his existing deal expires on 30 June. "I have had four very nice, successful years here in Munich and that's what I want to thank FC Bayern for. It was always something special to play for this club."

Former 1. FC Kaiserslautern target man Klose netted 24 goals in 98 Bundesliga games after joining the Bavarians from SV Werder Bremen in summer 2007, winning domestic doubles in 2008 and 2010. With Bayern using a lone forward for much of the last campaign, Klose fell behind Mario Gomez in the pecking order. Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: "Unfortunately our talks with Miroslav Klose have not reached a positive conclusion. We would have liked an extension but could not agree on a duration."
