Before the game the win was vital. We deserved it but Villarreal were very dangerous on the counterattack and played extremely well. [Sergio Agüero's late winner] was an important goal because now everything is very open for first place. When you play in the Champions League for the first time you need to improve game after game, and after this one we can do even better.

We conceded a goal after two minutes and after that it was difficult but we scored an equaliser and had another two chances and a couple in the second half; for this we deserved to beat them. In the first half we had a problem in the middle and conceded counterattacks. So we brought on Gareth Barry because we needed another player in the middle so that Yaya Touré could move forward.

Juan Carlos Garrido, Villarreal coach
There was much enthusiasm put into the game but the last-minute goal does not make me happy. It is a blow, but we're ready to recover. The team has to keep the high level shown, both defending and attacking. Today we have proven ourselves as a great team and we must continue on this path, keep working hard and know that the keys to recovery are clear. In football, there is nothing wrong. One gets two goals and another one, and the winner is clear.
