Phillip Cocu, PSV coach
We have European experience [from the UEFA Europa League] and will get more by playing matches at this level. Everybody is looking forward to this game. It is prestigious and the stakes are high – it is important.
United have a lot of individual quality, they are experienced and they are a top football team. You can see the hand of Louis van Gaal. Our intention is to go for the win, but we will not be naive. Our initial aim, however, is to try to win.
Louis van Gaal, United manager
It is always difficult to play here. When I was coach of Ajax and Barcelona, we did not win so many in Eindhoven. Maybe only with AZ Alkmaar. I don't think there is a difference in philosophy between the Premier League and the Champions League.
An away draw is always a good result but we will go for the win. The first match is very important to win ... for PSV too. I think the fans will see a Manchester United team willing to fight for their Champions League chances. We want to show that we are able to win matches at the highest level.
Manchester United 3-1 Liverpool (Blind 49, Ander Herrera 70pen, Martial 86; Benteke 84)
Anthony Martial came off the bench to score on his debut and wrap up the points. United are third in the Premier League, five points off leaders Manchester City.
Cambuur 0-6 PSV Eindhoven (De Jong 9pen 12 42, Pröpper 56, Locadia 74 89)
Luuk de Jong hit a hat-trick and Jürgen Locadia struck twice as PSV maintained their unbeaten start to the season. They are fourth, two points behind leaders Ajax.

While the talk at Old Trafford may be of Martial's spectacular debut and Wayne Rooney's injury, here in Eindhoven it is all about reunions – with both Memphis Depay, who only departed a few months ago, and the UEFA Champions League itself. This will be PSV's first group stage match since 2008/2009, so expect a sell-out crowd and a boisterous atmosphere.
Did you know?
Cocu faced United only once as a player – for Barcelona at Old Trafford in the 1998/99 group stage. Van Gaal was his coach at the time, yet how did that thriller end? The answer to that and more can be found in our extensive match background.
