Mönchengladbach and Juventus reflect on draw

"Pleased with the performance, not the result," said André Schubert after a 1-1 draw that ended Borussia Mönchengladbach's chances but boosted the hopes of Massimilano Allegri's Juventus.

  • Schubert just frustrated not to have made more of advantage after Hernanes dismissal
  • Massimiliano Allegri happy with Juve on verge of last 16

André Schubert, Mönchengladbach coach
I have to pay my team a huge compliment – if you think about their run of games and the consistency, determination, discipline, great football and quality they have displayed in recent weeks. You could see that we wanted to win the game against a very good Juve side.

Over long periods we put in a very good performance and even at the break we had almost 60% possession. We created three, four good opportunities. After the red card, we were even more dominant and tried to find openings, but Juve defend very well close to their area.

We are not a team who are strong in the air, so high balls or high crosses are not paying off for us. Maybe we could have lured the opposition a bit more with our movement. We had deserved a point at home against Man. City, now we got one at home against Juve. If we continue like this, it is a very good omen for our last home game. We are very pleased with the performance, if not 100% with the result.

Together we are strong. As a team, we have to try to achieve consistency. We started well but then we faltered a bit and conceded. Only then did we get back to playing football and we deserved our equaliser.

After the red card, it was a different game again. With two matches to go, we already have eight points – which not everyone expected as we were not favourites in this group – and we'll now try to reach the round of 16.

What I did not really like was the phase between Borussia's first chance and the opener. We are still going through a process here. We have made mistakes ourselves instead of forcing the opposition into making them. We have to do some things better if we want to continue to play a part among Europe's elite sides. Now we want to get our second win in a row in Serie A.
