How Ronaldo's 100 European goals have come

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first player to reach 100 goals in UEFA club competition. Watch them here as UEFA.com dissects his body of work.

2014 final highlights: Real Madrid 4-1 Atlético (AET)

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 100 goals in European competition in 143 appearances. He made his debut as a 17-year-old in August 2002, coming on as a substitute for Sporting CP against Inter. That UEFA Champions League third qualifying round game finished 0-0, but the goals have flowed ever since.

Slow start
Early on, Ronaldo managed a solitary strike in his first 32 European outings – for Manchester United against Debrecen in 2005 – before getting going in earnest the following season with two in Sir Alex Ferguson's side's memorable 7-1 triumph over Roma at Old Trafford on 10 April 2007. After that, there has been no stopping him.

Madrid magic
If the Portugal captain's first 16 goals came in 55 matches for Manchester United, he stepped up the pace after his 2009 move to Real Madrid – he has struck 84 times in 85 European games for the Merengues. Three appearances for Sporting CP, including his only two experiences of the UEFA Cup, brought no goals.

Rabbits in Ronaldo's headlights
He had to wait until October 2012 for his first hat-trick, against Ajax. However, he has added four more since, including four against Malmö last term. The Dutch team are one of two clubs that have suffered more than most at Ronaldo's hands – unlike Barcelona, who have not conceded a Ronaldo goal in five European meetings.

High-water mark
The 2013/14 campaign remains Ronaldo's finest in weight of goals as he plundered a single-season record of 17 UEFA Champions League goals. He scored in eight successive matches at one point, and completed his contribution with a penalty in Madrid's 4-1 extra-time victory over Atlético in the final.

Home and away
That spot kick in Lisbon was one of 11 he has successfully converted in European action (penalty shoot-outs don't count), and is also one of four goals he has registered on neutral territory during finals. The rest of his strikes are evenly distributed between home and away: 49 to 47, respectively.

Winning mentality
Ronaldo kicked off 2014/15 with a double in his sole UEFA Super Cup outing to date, against Sevilla. They are the only European goals he has scored that have not come in the UEFA Champions League. As usually happens when Ronaldo finds the net, his side went on to win.
