• Two-time winners Porto are one of only two teams (along with Nottingham Forest) who have appeared in more than one European Cup/UEFA Champions League final without losing. Benfica also won their first two finals, but have lost all eight of their subsequent European deciders: five European Cup finals and three in the UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League.

• Forward António Simões was aged just 18 years and 139 days when he turned out for Benfica in their 5-3 European Cup final win against Real Madrid in 1962. He remains the youngest player to appear in, and to win, Europe's most prestigious club trophy.
