Who should be my Champions League Fantasy Football Captain for Matchday 7?

With four opportunities to pick the right captain, UEFA.com profiles some leading contenders for the armband in the round of 16 first legs.

With Matchday 7 taking place over four separate days, Fantasy managers have multiple opportunities to nail down a successful captain. Here's a guide to who should be considered from each gameday on #UCLfantasy, presented by Playstation.

Pick your Fantasy captain for Matchday 7

TUESDAY 15 FEBRUARY

Highlights: Club Brugge 1-5 Man. City

João Cancelo (€6.5m) vs Sporting CP (A)

Manchester City failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their six group games but that did not stop marauding full-back Cancelo from amassing an impressive tally of Fantasy points. The Portuguese international registered two goals and three assists across his five appearances, which helped him to 41 points when combined with his 33 ball recoveries and Player of the Match performance against Club Brugge on Matchday 3. Given Cancelo's output, more attacking returns would not be a surprise against Sporting CP on Matchday 7 and if Pep Guardiola's men can tighten up at the back, then Cancelo could be an excellent captaincy option on the opening gameday.

Other options: Kevin De Bruyne (€10.9m), Lionel Messi (€11.3m), Kylian Mbappé (€10.9m)

WEDNESDAY 16 FEBRUARY

Highlights: Bayern 5-2 Benfica

Robert Lewandowski (€12.0m) vs Salzburg (A)

It's a toss of a coin between Lewandowski and Leroy Sané for the leading captaincy contender in the Bayern ranks, but the former is chosen due to his incredible consistency in the UEFA Champions League. The Pole has added nine strikes this year to his overall tally in the competition – which now stands at 82 goals – and made an attacking contribution in every game in the group stage. With 22 goals, Bayern have outscored every other team in this season's competition and those placing the armband on Lewandowski could in for some handsome #UCLfantasy returns if the German champions continue in the same manner against Salzburg in the round of 16.

Other options: Leroy Sané (€9.4m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (€6.6m), Mohamed Salah (€10.9m)

TUESDAY 22 FEBRUARY

Highlights: Chelsea 4-0 Juventus

Antonio Rüdiger (€5.9m) vs LOSC (H)

Chelsea's defensive record at Stamford Bridge in the UEFA Champions League is impressive in recent times, with just one goal conceded in their last eight games on home turf. On Matchday 7 the holders entertain French champions LOSC Lille, who scored seven goals in the group stage, the joint fewest goals of all the qualified teams. With that in mind, another clean sheet could well be coming the way of Rüdiger, who conceded just once across his five appearances in Group H. Couple that with the German international's lung-busting runs forward alongside his attacking threat from set pieces and you have all the ingredients for a high-impact captaincy option.

Other options: Arnaut Danjuma (€6.8m), Dušan Vlahović (€9.5m), Romelu Lukaku (€10.6m)

WEDNESDAY 23 FEBRUARY

Highlights: Sporting CP 1-5 Ajax

Sébastien Haller (€9.3m) vs Benfica (A)

Should #UCLfantasy managers be in need of a final throw of the dice for a Matchday 7 captain, then Haller certainly represents a worthy candidate. The Ajax frontman is enjoying a sensational second season for the Dutch champions and that has particularly been the case in the UEFA Champions League, with ten goals taking the Ivory Coast forward to the top of the scoring charts. With Erik ten Hag's men hitting a glut of goals across all competitions this season, Fantasy managers will be clamouring to fill their Matchday 7 squads with Ajax attacking assets ahead of their round of 16 first leg at Benfica, and Haller will be the chief option for many.

Other options: Cristiano Ronaldo (€11.4m), Bruno Fernandes (€10.9m), Dušan Tadić (€9.2m)
