Denoueix strikes new deal with Real

The 55-year-old, who replaced John Toshack in the Real hot seat in July 2002, is now committed to the Basque club until 30 June 2005. Since his arrival, the former FC Nantes Atlantique coach has transformed Real from a struggling side into a force in Spain. Denoueix said: "This [extension] goes to show the confidence that exists between the club and the coach and the coherence of the organisation."

Champions League chance
Real were Primera División runners-up behind Real Madrid CF last season and this term, despite a blip in their league form, they are well placed to progress to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League next week, needing a draw at home to Galatasaray SK.
