FK Rudar Pljevlja made a successful start to their debut UEFA Champions League campaign after beating SP Tre Fiori 3-0 in the opening leg of their first qualifying round tie.

Two goals in ten first-half minutes from Nermin Useni and Nedeljko Vlahović put the Montenegrin title winners in charge in Serravalle. Ivica Jovanović added a third deep into added time to give Nebojša Vignjević's side a healthy cushion ahead of the decider in Podgorica on 7 July.

Rudar captain Predrag Randjelović said even before the draw that he was confident his team would "progress to the next round" and by half-time his prediction was well on the way to being borne out. Rudar pierced the San Marinese champions' defence for the first time in the 31st minute, Useni tapping in Danilo Tomić's cross to score his team's maiden goal in the competition.

They made it two before the break through Vlahović's header and substitute Jovanović nodded in to put the icing on the cake in the fifth minute of added time. Tre Fiori coach Floriano Sperindio said: "We knew we were facing a team who are superior to us but we were unlucky to concede two goals in the first half despite not giving them many chances."
