Scottish international midfielder Darren Fletcher has signed a new contract with Manchester United FC, taking him through to the end of the 2014/15 season.

Fletcher has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal, having previously been committed to Manchester United until 2012. The Edinburgh-born 27-year-old has won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League during his time at Old Trafford. "I take great pride in playing for Manchester United," he said. "I have won many trophies in my years here and I am looking forward to winning many more in the seasons to come."

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson added: "Darren has been at the club since he was 15 years old. I am extremely proud that he came through the ranks of our academy. I am delighted Darren has signed a new contract; he has developed into a top-class midfielder."

The Fletcher announcement comes 24 hours after fellow midfielder Michael Carrick committed to a longer term with Premier League leaders United, who take on Olympique de Marseille in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg at Old Trafford on 15 March, having drawn the first 0-0.
