Napoli striker Lavezzi laid off for five weeks

SSC Napoli are counting the cost of Sunday's 3-1 Serie A loss to AS Roma after it was confirmed that Ezequiel Lavezzi is likely to miss up to five weeks with a right thigh injury.

SSC Napoli will be without Ezequiel Lavezzi for around four to five weeks after the forward strained his right thigh during the 3-1 home defeat by AS Roma on Sunday.

The 26-year-old was replaced by Goran Pandev 11 minutes into the second half at the Stadio San Paolo and, following tests, is not expected to return until late January. The Argentinian international has scored three goals in 14 top-flight appearances this term for Walter Mazzarri's side, who are ninth in Serie A.

Lavezzi started all six of the Partenopei's UEFA Champions League Group A matches. Napoli's reward for finishing second in that section is a round of 16 tie against Chelsea FC, the first leg of which takes place in Italy on 21 February.
