SSC Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis says that the UEFA Champions League round of 16 contenders have signed Chilean international Eduardo Vargas from CFP Universidad de Chile.
"I can officially say that we have signed Vargas," De Laurentiis told the club's official website. "The contract has been signed and we beat off competition from several top clubs who also wanted the player." No other details were revealed about the transfer.
The 22-year-old forward has played nine games for Chile, scoring his first international goal in a friendly against Spain in September. Napoli will take on Chelsea FC in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on 21 February and 14 March.
