PSG set a premium on Porto success

"Everyone at the club is sorry, because we have not made a good start to the season," said Carlo Ancelotti as Paris Saint-Germain FC look to make amends against FC Porto.

Paris Saint-Germain FC are looking to get some confidence back after some trying results in Ligue 1 as FC Porto come to the French capital, eager to keep hold of top spot in UEFA Champions League Group A. Visiting coach Vítor Pereira is mindful, meanwhile, that there is more to Carlo Ancelotti's side than Jérémy Ménez and Zlatan Ibrahimović.

PSG are through but must beat Porto to finish top.

Porto have qualified with the highest points' tally of any team after five games and will clinch first place with a win or a draw in Paris.

PSG
Carlo Ancelotti, coach

We talked about making changes, but that doesn't happen overnight, and we have only had one training session since our loss on Saturday. This match is important for two reasons: first to get first place and take on a great club with a lot of experience, and to turn the page on the [OGC] Nice defeat and find our confidence again.

The criticisms levelled at PSG are deserved. Everyone at the club is sorry, because we have not made a good start to the season. The league isn't over, and we're already through to the next phase of the Champions League. I think PSG will be very competitive. We can make progress, and I'm only focused on finding the right solution. But I have a good feeling about this match.

Weekend result
Saturday: OGC Nice 2-1 PSG (Bauthéac 76, Eysseric 86; Ibrahimović 82)
Douchez; Jallet (Van der Wiel 69), Alex, Thiago Silva, Maxwell; Chantôme (Hoarau 80), Matuidi, Armand (Pastore 69); Lavezzi, Ménez, Ibrahimović.

• Zlatan Ibrahimović's 13th league goal of the campaign was not enough as PSG were edged out in a frenetic finale that concluded with Blaise Matuidi being sent off in added time. It was the first time Ancelotti's side have lost in Ligue 1 when Ibrahimović has played 90 minutes, his previous ten full appearances bringing seven wins and three draws.

Team news
Kevin Gameiro (back), Thiago Motta (calf) and Mathieu Bodmer (thigh) are all doubtful with knocks that ruled them out on Saturday.

Porto
Vítor Pereira, coach
PSG have class, but we will play our game, looking to get a lot of possession and push forward. Their team is full of talented players, and two months ago they were full of confidence and being considered as one of Europe's finest sides. PSG are not Zlatan and ten other players, but I am concentrating on our team. Like players at any big club, they have to handle pressure. We'll be going for the three points – that's always our aim, no matter where we play.

I haven't thought yet about who we might get in the round of 16. Right now I'm focused on winning this match, to get top spot and to please our fans, and the Portuguese community in France. Ménez and Zlatan are great players, but they can't win the match without the support they need from their team-mates.

Weekend result
Friday: SC Braga 2-1 Porto (Danilo og 74, Éder 79; Mangala 13)
Fabiano; Miguel Lopes (Danilo 58), Ba, Otamendi, Mangala; Fernando (Lucho 58), Defour, Castro; Rodríguez, Atsu (Moutinho 81), Kléber.

• The Dragons' 18-game unbeaten start to the season ended in the Portuguese Cup round of 16 as a weakened side conceded twice after André Castro's 71st-minute dismissal – Porto's first red card this term.

Team news
Maicon has been out with a right ankle injury since 2 November.

Match fact
• PSG are unbeaten at home in all five games against Portuguese opponents. In 2003/04, Porto got the better of three French teams en route to lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy.
