It is a dream for anyone to play for the club they support in the UEFA Champions League – and FC Dynamo Kyiv's Ukraine midfielder Oleh Gusev is realising that ambition.

This is a man who says: "When a match is lost, or there's a bad season, I take it pretty personally as a supporter." So the 29-year-old will have been happy to score in the 2-0 UEFA Champions League win against GNK Dinamo Zagreb that got Dynamo off the mark last month – though his goal at FC Porto a fortnight ago could not prevent a 3-2 loss, which followed the opening 4-1 reverse at Paris Saint-Germain FC.

Dynamo now welcome Porto on Tuesday knowing defeat could leave them six points adrift of second place in Group A, whereas a victory would keep the Ukrainian side strongly in contention. "If we play like we did in Paris, there's no chance of progressing in the competition," Gusev told UEFA.com. "On the other hand, if we play like against Zagreb, I think we have every chance."
