FC Bayern München will have to do without the services of Holger Badstuber for six months at least after the Germany defender ruptured a cruciate ligament during Saturday's 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Borussia Dortmund.

The centre-back damaged the cruciate in his right knee after twisting the joint during the first half. He was carried off the pitch in the 37th minute at the Fußball Arena München – and the injury was diagnosed in the Bayern dressing room. With Badstuber having only recently returned from a three-week lay-off, coach Jupp Heynckes said that this latest, more serious, setback was "tragic" for the 23-year-old.

Bundesliga leaders Bayern host FC Bate Borisov on Wednesday, looking to secure first place in UEFA Champions League Group F ahead of Valencia CF, with both teams having already qualified for the last 16.
