Olympique de Marseille striker André Ayew is expected to be out of action until 2014 after the club confirmed that he will undergo knee surgery on Monday.

The Ghanaian international, who has played every minute of Marseille's UEFA Champions League campaign so far, came back from international duty with what was described as a "twisted knee" sustained in Tuesday's FIFA World Cup play-off against Egypt. The 23-year-old is expected to be out of action for eight weeks.

Ayew, who has scored half of the Ligue 1 side's four Group F goals this season, is therefore certain to miss next week's trip to Arsenal FC and the visit of Borussia Dortmund on matchday six, 11 December. OM, without a point, can no longer finish in the top two but remain in contention for UEFA Europa League qualification.
