Baník busy rebuilding

FC Baník Ostrava have signed goalkeeper Miroslav König and defender Marek Zúbek.

Slovakian goalkeeper
Slovakian No1 König is a replacement for Jan Lastuvka, the former Czech Under-21 international who has left for Ukrainian side FC Shakhtar Donetsk. The 32-year-old König has won 41 caps and arrives from Turkish side Elazigspor.

Belgian experience
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Zúbek arrives from 1. FC Brno to step into the boots of Czech international René Bolf, who left the Bazaly stadium for AJ Auxerre before UEFA EURO 2004™. Zúbek, who won the last of his three senior caps seven years ago, also had a spell recently with Belgian outfit KFC Lommelse SK, which ended when they were declared bankrupt.

Forward aim
Baník coach František Komnacký is also keen to sign a new forward, with last season's top scorer Marek Heinz expected to move on after some eye-catching performances at EURO 2004™. Baník enter the Champions League in the third qualifying round.
