Article body
Short reign
Portuguese coach Jorge had been at the helm for just four months and leaves after failing to meet the CSKA board's expectations. Before the 2004 league campaign began, the board declared their aim of reaching the UEFA Champions League group stage and retaining the Russian league crown.
Former coach
Despite a comfortable 3-0 win against FC Amkar in the last round of league matches, CSKA are in fifth place, six points behind league leaders FC Torpedo Moskva, with more than half the season gone. Therefore, the decision was made to part company with Jorge and appoint a new coach ahead of the club's Champions League second qualifying round entry next month.
Giner thoughts
Club president Yevgeni Giner has said that Gazzaev, who led the club to the Premier-Liga title last season, will be returning to his old job, although an official announcement is yet to be made.
