Pizarro faces surgery

FC Bayern München's Claudio Pizarro will have surgery on his fractured skull but should be fit within five weeks.
FC Bayern München striker Claudio Pizarro has flown back to Munich where he will undergo surgery tomorrow on the skull fracture he suffered while playing for Peru in the Copa América.

Injured on Friday
The 25-year-old complained of dizziness and nausea after Peru's 3-1 win against Venezuela last Friday - a match in which he was sent off in the closing minutes - and scans afterwards revealed that he had fractured his skull.

A month out
Bayern said today that Pizarro faced an absence of between four and five weeks, meaning he will miss the start of the Bundesliga season on 7 August. However, he should certainly be fit for the start of the UEFA Champions League group stage in mid-September.
