Monaco sign second Uruguayan

AS Monaco FC have secured the signing of Uruguayan international midfield player Diego Pérez from CA Peñarol.

No fee disclosed
Pérez becomes Monaco's third South American signing of the summer, following the arrivals of his fellow Uruguayan Ernesto Javier Chevanton - who joined on Thursday - and the Brazilian defender Maicon. No fee has been disclosed for the defensive midfield player, who is presently in Peru playing in the Copa América and will fly over to Monaco at the end of the month.

'He will surprise people'
Pérez only joined Peñarol in January this year after four years at Defensor Sporting and Monaco coach Didier Deschamps said of the 24-year-old: "I am sure he will surprise people." Last season's UEFA Champions League runners-up, Monaco's transfer dealings will not end with Pérez.

Striker to come
Following the departures of Dado Pršo and Fernando Morientes, Deschamps is expected to sign a new striker ahead of the new season which begins on 7 August when Monaco visit newly promoted AS Saint-Etienne. Later in the month, their latest Champions League campaign will begin with a third qualifying round tie.
