Jérôme Boateng, Bayern defender
It was a good time to score. I connected with the ball perfectly and it took a little deflection on the way in so I'm absolutely delighted. We put in a good performance and for me to score the winning goal was a great experience.

When you're up against a world-class team there's always a chance you can concede so we have to be happy with the way things turned out. We were never too worried but opponents like City are always dangerous.

We're off to a good start and now we want to press on and make sure we get through. The next game is just around the corner and we need to keep going and stay focused.

Philipp Lahm, Bayern defender
Job done. We got the three points. We wanted to start well and we managed to do so. We could have gone ahead in the first minute but after that we struggled. Manchester City are a very good side who can play good football in tight spaces. We had a few problems and were chasing the game a bit but then we made a few changes and improved substantially. Over the 90 minutes we had the better chances.

It shows just how good we are, being able to change system midway through a match with no negative consequences. We had a lot of the ball and looked good in attack because we got in between the lines and put them under pressure, but when City had the ball they kept hold of it for long periods so we had to adapt.

We can go to bed feeling very pleased with ourselves. We beat Manchester City 1-0, played really well and forced the goal at the end. It was a bit of a shame we didn't score earlier, but that was my fault! We played really well and didn't get our reward, but their goalkeeper had a good game. We're very satisfied.

We can play in various different formations. The coach does a lot of preparation to find the right recipe but he always has a Plan B up his sleeve. These days it's important to have players like ours who are flexible on the field.

Arjen Robben, Bayern forward
We got the three points and that was the most important thing. We didn't play as well as we can and we still need to find our rhythm, but we're on the right track. We’re working on certain things and the only way is up.

Sometimes chances go in, sometimes they don't. Not everyone who gets a chance is going to score. But there were plenty of positives, we created a lot of good opportunities.

Fitness-wise I'm doing well too. I started the season really well against Wolfsburg, but after that I've had a few problems. They're healing nicely, though, and hopefully soon they'll be gone.

Josep Guardiola, Bayern coach
City were the better team in the first 20 minutes, but we dominated afterwards. We created a lot of chances, which isn't easy against a team like them. We played with a big heart and showed how much we wanted this victory.

The most difficult thing in football is to score a goal. I know Manuel Pellegrini very well and his defensive movement of the back line is almost perfect. My humble opinion is that there are six or seven teams that can win the Champions League. City are one of them.

Joe Hart, Manchester City goalkeeper
We did OK. We looked like we were going to get a result and a good start in the group but it was an unfortunate deflection and it's ended up going in and that's killed us.

I had a bit to do tonight but we defended well on the whole. We had a few chances. We could have had the perfect performance and nicked a 1-0 win. Unfortunately we've come away with a loss.

Jérôme's a good guy, someone I got on well with [when he was at City]. The shot took a deflection and I think I'd have got it or it would have gone wide if it hadn't hit [Mario Götze], but that's football.

It was tough obviously. We were away from home against Bayern and so we played a bit differently to how we do at home. That meant they needed the win a little bit more than us and that makes it that little bit more disappointing.

Rubén Cousillas, Manchester City assistant coach
Of course it's not good to start with a defeat, but there are five games left. Our next task is to beat Roma, which will be difficult as they are a strong side, but we have a strong team and are playing at home which will help. It is a difficult group, but I am sure that we are going to make it.
