Messi makes history, Bayern continue surge

Lionel Messi became the leading scorer in Liga history on a weekend that also smiled on FC Bayern München and the likes of Chelsea FC, Juventus and Real Madrid CF.

Not for the first time, Lionel Messi dominated headlines over the weekend after overtaking Telmo Zarra's record of 251 Liga goals with a hat-trick against Sevilla FC. The FC Barcelona forward helped his side stay two points behind Spanish leaders Real Madrid CF, for whom Cristiano Ronaldo starred again, while FC Bayern München and Chelsea FC increased their respective league leads and Juventus won at the Serie A summit.

Group A
• Diego Godín struck late to seal a 3-1 success for Club Atlético de Madrid against Málaga CF.
• Two points behind PAOK FC in Greece, Olympiacos FC did not have a domestic fixture at the weekend. 
Juventus made light work of a trip to SS Lazio as two Paul Pogba goals helped them to a 3-0 win which maintained their three-point cushion. 
• Having completed the Swedish league campaign as champions, Malmö FF were not in action.

• Cristiano Ronaldo's two goals helped Liga frontrunners Real Madrid to a 4-0 defeat of SD Eibar.
• A pair of late strikes consigned Liverpool FC to a 3-1 reverse at Crystal Palace FC.
FC Basel 1893 restored their two-point lead in Switzerland after a 3-0 success against FC Aarau.
• Five points off the top, PFC Ludogorets Razgrad drew 1-1 at Bulgarian league leaders PFC CSKA Sofia.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen climbed up to fourth in the Bundesliga via a 3-1 victory at Hannover 96.
AS Monaco FC were held to a third successive Ligue 1 draw, needing a João Moutinho equaliser to secure a 2-2 result against SM Caen. 
• Eight points clear of the pack in Russia, FC Zenit saw off FC Kuban Krasnodar 1-0.
• SL Benfica downed Moreirense FC 4-1 to reach the last 16 of the Portuguese Cup, Jonas and Eduardo Salvio both hitting doubles.

• Struggling Borussia Dortmund squandered a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw with SC Paderborn.
Arsenal FC suffered their third league loss this term, succumbing 2-1 at home to Manchester United FC.
RSC Anderlecht slipped off the Belgian summit after going down 3-1 at R. Charleroi SC.
• Previously unbeaten at home in the league this season, Galatasaray AŞ lost 3-0 against Trabzonspor AŞ.

Bayern prevailed 4-0 against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to surge seven points clear in Germany.
AS Roma remain on Juve's coat-tails thanks to a 2-1 success at Atalanta BC.
PFC CSKA Moskva lost 2-1 at FC Krasnodar, their third straight league defeat.
• Stevan Jovetić and Yaya Touré earned Manchester City FC a 2-1 comeback win against Swansea City AFC.

• Ezequiel Lavezzi pounced late as Paris Saint-Germain defeated FC Metz 3-2 on Friday.

• AFC Ajax overturned a half-time deficit to overcome sc Heerenveen 4-1, scoring four for the fourth successive domestic game.
• Cypriot leaders APOEL FC drew 0-0 away at second-placed Apollon Limassol FC.

• Premier League top dogs Chelsea prevailed 2-0 at home to West Bromwich Albion FC to build a seven-point gap.
FC Schalke 04 scored three times in the opening 25 minutes in a 3-2 defeat of VfL Wolfsburg.
Sporting Clube de Portugal progressed into the last 16 of the cup with a 5-0 success at SC Espinho.
• In Slovenia, NK Maribor enjoyed a comprehensive 4-0 victory against FC Koper.
