Juninho buoys Celtic

Celtic FC have signed Brazilian international midfield player Juninho Paulista from Middlesbrough FC on a two-year deal.

Old Firm debut
The 31-year-old has agreed a two-year deal and could make his debut at home to Glasgow rivals Rangers FC on Sunday. "He has proven himself to be a talented player over a number of years both in the Premiership and at international level," O'Neill said. "I am sure he'll be a very important addition to the squad."

'Tremendous success'
Juninho himself was delighted at the move, adding: "It is a privilege to sign for Celtic. The club has enjoyed tremendous domestic success in recent years and has also made its mark in European football. I am looking forward to joining up with the players and will work hard in trying to ensure that we continue to bring success to the supporters."

Second major signing
Juninho is O'Neill's second major summer signing after the arrival of Senegalese striker Henri Camara, on loan for the season from Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. Celtic are rebuilding following the departures of Henrik Larsson, Johan Mjällby, Liam Miller and Jamie Smith.

World Cup winner
He has won more than 50 caps for Brazil and was a member of his country's 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning squad. He scored 27 league goals in 126 games over three spells with Middlesbrough, and has also played for Ituano FC, São Paulo FC, CR Flamengo, CR Vasco da Gama and Spain's Club Atlético de Madrid.
