FC BATE Borisov have set a new mark for goals conceded in a UEFA Champions League group stage, shipping their 23rd and 24th in this season's competition as they went down 2-0 at Athletic Club in Group H.

The Belarusian champions conceded 12 times over two contests with FC Shakhtar Donetsk – including a 7-0 home defeat – and nine against FC Porto, although they did beat Athletic 2-1 on matchday two in the inaugural game at the Borisov Arena.

BATE therefore become the first team to let in more than 22 goals in a single group stage, the previous low that was shared by GNK Dinamo Zagreb (2011/12) and FC Nordsjælland (2012/13). They also have the worst goal difference of any side in the UEFA Champions League era, despite that victory against Athletic, although the latter result does mean they avoid joining the list of 16 teams to have not collected a point.
