Paris Saint-Germain v Chelsea: facts and reaction

The Paris Saint-Germain v Chelsea FC tie is not just a repeat of the 2013/14 quarter-final but a return to Stamford Bridge for David Luiz, who moved to France in the summer.

• Chelsea knocked Paris out of last season's UEFA Champions League despite a 3-1 loss at the Parc des Princes in the quarter-final first leg. José Mourinho's side won 2-0 in the Stamford Bridge return to progress on away goals.

• The Blues also came out on top in the 2004/05 group stage meetings between the teams, John Terry scoring one goal and Didier Drogba two in a 3-0 away victory before a goalless draw in London.

• That is Paris's sole home loss to an English club; their record in the French capital is W3 D1 L1.

• The success at Paris in September 2004, in what was Mourinho's first European game in charge of Chelsea, is their only triumph away to Ligue 1 opposition. They have otherwise lost four and drawn two.

• David Luiz – who scored an own goal in last season's Paris fixture – swapped Chelsea for Paris in the summer.

Lucas, Paris midfielder
It will be a great game against a great team, like all Champions League games. We'll work hard to win these matches. We must respect Chelsea. We're very strong, we can win and we'll work towards that.

Compared with last season, Chelsea have evolved more than us. They will be very strong with [Didier] Drogba and [Cesc] Fàbregas. I'm very motivated, I'll give everything to win it.

Marquinhos, Paris defender
At this level only the big teams are left. We'll train and work hard to have the best preparations for this double-header. Chelsea won the Champions League [in 2012] and lead their league. We'll have to give our all to go through.

Last year's setback was a painful one. We'll learn from that and avoid the mistakes we made then.

David Barnard, Chelsea secretary
[Paris are] very familiar. We played them last season in the quarter-finals and were successful. But again, they came through a very difficult group – they could have been winners with Barcelona. We'll show them all the respect they deserve. And then we've also got David Luiz coming back, just to add an extra ingredient. He was obviously a very popular player at Chelsea so I am sure he will get a good reception.

It's ironic that José sort of hoped for PSG, really for the travel purposes, of being easy to get to. But again, anybody that is in this stage of the competition is there by merit. Again we don't take them lightly.

[David Luiz] was part of our Champions League-winning team in Munich so he'll always be in the hearts of our supporters.
