Health problems
The former Parma FC coach took over at Roma in June, signing a three-year contract, after Fabio Capello left for Juventus FC but he missed some of the pre-season preparations due to his wife's health problems and did not travel with the squad for friendly matches in the United States, Canada and Japan in July.
Time to evaluate
"Cesare Prandelli indicated to the club his desire to offer his resignation in order to best deal with the matters relating to his family," Roma said in a statement. The club said it would give him "the necessary time to calmly evaluate his future".
Champions League
The Italian season starts on 12 September while Roma begin their UEFA Champions League campaign against FC Dynamo Kyiv three days later. Roma, who finished runners-up in Serie A last term, will also face Real Madrid CF and Bayer 04 Leverkusen in Group B.
