Real Madrid's Zinédine Zidane was already the seventh man to win the European Cup as both player and coach, and he has now done another 'double'; UEFA.com examines the magnificent seven.

  • The venerable Italian was a midfielder for the first two of the Rossoneri's seven European Cup victories but has lifted the trophy only once as a coach, albeit in the immediate aftermath of the Heysel tragedy in 1985.

  • Perhaps the most revered exponent of the 'Total Football' that helped Ajax to three straight European Cups, Cruyff scored twice in the 1972 final. The Dutchman encouraged a similarly fluid style as coach of the Barça team that prevailed in 1992.

  • A player in the last side to retain the trophy until Madrid in Cardiff – Milan's vintage of 27 years ago – Ancelotti is also one of just two coaches, along with Bob Paisley, to have won three European Cups. He may yet make it four with Bayern, which would make him the first coach to triumph with three clubs.

  • Rijkaard was Ancelotti's midfield sidekick in those 1989 and 1990 finals, getting the only goal in the latter. He then claimed a third title – beating Milan in the final – in 1995, his last game as a player, before guiding Barça all the way in 2006.

  • Part of Cruyff's victorious Wembley team of 1992, Guardiola enjoyed further success in the Camp Nou dugout, steering the Azulgrana to UEFA Champions League glory a year after being appointed to his first senior coaching job.

  • As a player, he lost the 1997 and 1998 finals with Juve before at last tasting UEFA Champions League success in 2002 with a memorable winner for Madrid against Leverkusen in Glasgow. He was first-time lucky with the club as a coach last term and has now repeated the trick by inflicting Juve's latest final defeat.
