Real Madrid's last two games in Kyiv (both #UCL) ended 2-2 – against Dynamo in 2004 (a game in which current Merengues coach Zinédine Zidane played) and 2006. They lost 2-0 on their first visit in the 1998/99 #UCL quarter-finals, a young Andriy Shevchenko scoring both goals, but made partial amends with a 2-1 second group stage win the following season, Fernando Morientes and Raúl on target.

Danny Murphy and Steven Gerrard struck as Gérard Houllier's Reds won 2-1 against Dynamo Kyiv at Dynamo Stadium in the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League group stage. Rafael Benítez's side then drew 1-1 with Maccabi Haifa at the same venue – by that time renamed the Valeriy Lobanovskiy Stadium – in the 2006/07 competition, Peter Crouch their scorer.

Who has played at the NSC Olimpiyskyi stadium before?

Liverpool's Dejan Lovren and Madrid's Luka Modrić played for Croatia in a 2-0 FIFA World Cup qualifying win against Ukraine in October 2017.

Sergio Ramos has already lifted a major European trophy at the stadium, having featured in Spain's UEFA EURO 2012 final win against Italy.

Karim Benzema featured as France lost 2-0 to Sweden at the same venue earlier in the tournament (group stage), and also played in a 2-2 draw with Ukraine in UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying in 2007.

Toni Kroos scored his second international goal in a 3-3 friendly draw against Ukraine at the NSK Olimpiyskyi in November 2011.

Nacho and Isco started as Spain won 1-0 at the same venue in an October 2015 European qualifier.

Liverpool's Jordan Henderson came off the bench for England in a 0-0 draw with Italy in the UEFA EURO 2012 quarter-finals, his side losing 4-2 on penalties. Injured club-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was an unused substitute.

James Milner and Oxlade-Chamberlain had featured in a 3-2 group stage defeat of Sweden at the same tournament, with Henderson benched throughout.

Milner returned to play in England's 0-0 World Cup qualifying draw in Ukraine in 2013.

Mohamed Salah played at the NSK Olimpiyskyi for Fiorentina (while on loan from Chelsea) in a 1-1 2014/15 UEFA Europa League quarter-final draw.

Zidane has met neither Klopp nor Liverpool before, but the Reds boss took on Real Madrid six times as Dortmund boss in the space of two seasons. Dortmund had the better of the 2012/13 encounters – a 2-1 home win and a 2-2 away draw in the group stage, before winning 4-3 on aggregate in the semi-finals (Robert Lewandowski memorably scoring all his side's goal in a 4-1 first-leg win). Madrid extracted some revenge in 2013/14, knocking the Yellows out of the quarter-finals, 3-2 on aggregate. Ronaldo scored three goals in 440 minutes against Klopp's side in those games.
