Atlético Madrid (ESP)

Having beaten Arsenal on penalties and lost to a last-minute Paris goal in Singapore, Atlético won at Cagliari – 19-year-old Borja Garcés getting the only goal. The defeat by Inter was the last of their three International Champions Cup games following the two in Asia. They then headed to Tallinn and beat Real Madrid 4-2 after extra time in the UEFA Super Cup. Their Liga campaign opened with a draw at Valencia on Monday.

Malcom, Lionel Messi and Rafinha scored against Boca Juniors in the Joan Gamper Trophy before their first Liga game on Saturday, which ended in a 3-0 win over Alavés, with Messi's double sandwiching Philippe Coutinho's strike.

Bayern's domestic season kicked off with a 1-0 German Cup win at Drochtersen/Assel before their Bundesliga defence starts against Hoffenheim on Friday.

Back-to-back wins against Manchester City and Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool were highlights of a successful International Champions Cup campaign while Marco Reus was on target in the last friendly against Lazio. Dortmund's domestic season started with a dramatic German Cup win at Greuther Fürth on Monday.

Christopher Nkunku and Timothy Weah caught the eye in pre-season, culminating in a goal each as Paris won a record-equalling eighth French Super Cup by beating Monaco. Another win and Gianluigi Buffon clean sheet followed as Caen were beaten 3-0 in their Ligue 1 opener in Paris, Weah getting his first senior club goal. They were a goal down at half-time to Guingamp on Saturday, but Neymar's penalty and a Kylian Mbappé double overturned the deficit.
