Inter reconciled with Materazzi

Marco Materazzi has signed up for two more years at the San Siro despite putting in a transfer request recently.

Italian international Marco Materazzi has confirmed he is staying with FC Internazionale Milano after agreeing a two-year contract extension.

Bologna request
The defender has committed himself to Inter until 2009, a decision that marks quite a change of heart given he had asked for a transfer less than two weeks ago. "Ten days ago I asked Inter to sell me to Bologna [FC] because I felt I was not important to the team any more," Materazzi said.

'Very happy'
"They replied they did not want to sell me at any price and confirmed their faith in me. Now I want to stay here as long as possible and I'm very happy that I will be here when Inter celebrate their centenary in 2008."

Porto beckons
The 31-year-old joined Inter in 2001 from AC Perugia and this season has made 14 appearances in Serie A and four in the UEFA Champions League, scoring one goal. The Nerazzurri - still unbeaten this season - will face European champions FC Porto in the Champions League first knock-out round on 23 February and 15 March.
