Arsenal boosted by Seaman decision

Arsenal FC goalkeeper David Seaman has signed a new one-year contract with the English champions.

David Seaman, Arsenal FC's first-choice goalkeeper for over a decade, has signed a new one-year contract with the FA Premiership champions.

Friendly victory
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger announced after a 6-1 friendly victory at non-league Stevenage Borough FC last night that Seaman, England's 2002 FIFA World Cup keeper, had agreed to stay with the London club until at least the end of the 2002/03 season. Seaman, who has made 377 league appearances, said: "I definitely want to carry on and I will just play and see what happens. I'm still enjoying my football."

Contemplated retirement
The 38-year-old Seaman has won almost every honour at Highbury, including two Premiership and FA Cup doubles - in 1997/98 and 2001/02 - and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup. He contemplated retirement following England's World Cup quarter-final defeat by Brazil, but the support of Wenger and England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson has prompted the Rotherham-born Seaman to continue playing.

International appearances
Capped 73 times by England, Seaman made his international debut in 1988 and was picked for England's 1990 World Cup squad, although he was forced to withdraw through injury. In May of the same year he moved to Arsenal for €360,000 from Queen's Park Rangers FC and later produced a series of inspired performances at EURO 96™. Seaman was also England's first-choice keeper at France 98 and EURO 2000™.
