Wolves snap up United veteran Irwin

Denis Irwin ended his long Old Trafford career by joining Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.

Former Irish international defender Denis Irwin ended his 12-year association with Manchester United FC today when he completed a free transfer to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.

Seventeen major honours
Irwin, who was released by United at the end of last season, has agreed a one-year contract with the first division side. He joined United from Oldham Athletic FC in 1990 and won 17 major honours with the Old Trafford club including seven league titles and the UEFA Champions League in 1999.

Champions League appearances
Irwin is one of the players with the most Champions League appearances, having played 59 times between 1993 and 2002. "It was a scoop to pick him up with so many other clubs chasing him," Wolves manager Dave Jones told the club's website. "The experience he will bring to the squad is unprecedented."
