The magnificent seven

This week's UEFA Champions League action produced several stellar performances - and seven Amstel men of the match.

Ronaldinho (Chelsea FC 4-2 FC Barcelona)
Despite finishing on the losing side against Chelsea, the Brazilian forward showed again why he is the World Player of the Year. After scoring with a penalty in the 27th minute, Ronaldinho struck a sublime chip nine minutes later that gave goalkeeper Petr Cech no chance.

Hernán Crespo (AC Milan 1-0 Manchester United FC)
The Argentina striker was again the difference between two of Europe's top sides, registering the only goal of the game against United as he had in the first leg. This time it was a brilliant second-half header that capped another all-action display as the spearhead of Milan's attack.

Sylvain Wiltord (Olympique Lyonnais 7-2 Werder Bremen)
Although their first-leg lead was commanding, Lyon knew they had to finish the job at home. The French international was key man in a stunning performance that left Bremen reeling - opening the scoring in the eighth minute before completing his hat-trick in fine style in the second half.

David Trezeguet (Juventus FC 2-0 Real Madrid CF)
Trezeguet is used to the big stage and once again rose to the occasion. The France striker scored with an acrobatic 75th-minute volley just when Juventus were beginning to wonder where a goal might come from. He had only been on the pitch for 18 minutes and he then played his part during extra time.

Luis García (Bayer 04 Leverkusen 1-3 Liverpool FC)
Having scored in Liverpool's first-leg victory, Spanish midfielder García was again the thorn in Leverkusen's side at the BayArena. This time, he contributed two goals – the first, in the 28th minute, a neat finish from a cross, the second four minutes later, saw him in the right place to convert from close range.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (AS Monaco FC 0-2 PSV Eindhoven)
PSV were indebted to Vennegoor of Hesselink for settling their nerves in Monaco. He opened the scoring on the night with a 27th-minute header that effectively ended the French club's resistance. The forward was the star man for his side, offering a masterclass in how a lone striker should play.

Thierry Henry (Arsenal FC 1-0 FC Bayern München)
Henry showed his class again with a stunning goal in the 66th minute of Arsenal's 1-0 success against Bayern. Although it was not enough to take the Londoners through, it summed up the Frenchman at his best – fantastic control and a great finish that gave Oliver Kahn no chance.
