Mourinho cool on complacency

Chelsea FC manager José Mourinho suggested "99.9 per cent of Liverpool [FC] people think they are in the final".

The managers of Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC both agree that their UEFA Champions League semi-final is on a knife-edge following a 0-0 first-leg draw at Stamford Bridge. José Mourinho insists he is confident of getting the result his team needs at Anfield next Tuesday, while his opposite number Rafael Benítez refuted the Portuguese coach's assertion that "99.9 per cent of Liverpool people think they are in the final".

José Mourinho, Chelsea manager
It is a very good result. It is not the result we fought for as we tried to win the game, but in a Champions League semi-final it's a very good result. Liverpool played well, they slowed the game down. We know a score draw is enough [in the second leg]. We need to be solid defensively, dangerous on the counterattack and have a bit of luck. There’s more pressure on Liverpool. At the moment I think 99.9 per cent of Liverpool people think they are in the final. I think we will score goals, I think we will get a result, I am very confident. I think it is fantastic playing at Anfield, top players enjoy playing in this atmosphere. We have lost three matches away from home in the Champions League but I think we will go to the final.

Rafael Benítez, Liverpool manager
After the game, maybe I am not happy with 0-0 because we controlled much of the second half. Before the game I would have been happy with 0-0. Before the competition started, I would have been very happy with a semi-final place. In the second leg we must be careful, because Chelsea must score. They are a very good team. We did a great job in defence and played good football. [Referring to Mourinho's '99.9 per cent' statement] I am in the tenth of a per cent!

Petr Cech, Chelsea goalkeeper
It was a tough game and we expected that. We came into half-time having missed a couple of good chances and felt we could have been in the lead. However, they also had two good chances in the first half and they didn't take them. In the end I think we deserved to win. But Liverpool are well organised, and they kept passing and passing, and so it was difficult. We didn't concede a goal and we can go there to Liverpool and get a result.

Steve Finnan, Liverpool defender
It's great to keep a clean sheet and it's a good result but it would have been nice to get an away goal. It was quite even in the end. It's only half-time in the tie. We have done really well to get to this stage and hopeful we can make it by winning back at Anfield.

Frank Lampard, Chelsea midfielder
I am disappointed that we missed a few chances today but we kept a clean sheet, which is a big plus.

Steven Gerrard, Liverpool midfielder
It is set up for a great second leg, and may the best team go through.
