Ronaldinho rolls on at Barça

Amid yesterday's transfer frenzy, FC Barcelona completed one of the best bits of business by tying Ronaldinho to a two-year contract extension until 2010.

Inspiration
The 25-year-old Brazilian joined Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain FC on a five-year deal for €25m in 2003, and was the inspiration behind their first championship in six years last season. The Catalan team had hoped to tempt Ronaldinho into committing until 2014, but several days of intense negotiations ended with the parties agreeing on a new contract until the end of the decade.

Other extensions
The club said the player's buy-out clause had been increased to €125m and that the new terms included a provision for a further extension. The decision to renew Ronaldinho's deal forms part of Barça's policy to ensure continuity among the backbone of their title-winning squad. Striker Samuel Eto'o, midfielders Xavi Hernández and Deco, and goalkeeper Víctor Valdés have also extended their contracts until 2010.
