Terim's tactics take the points

A substitution from Galatasaray SK coach Fatih Terim engineered his side's victory against Lokomotiv.

Galatasaray SK coach Fatih Terim took full credit for the substitution which turned the UEFA Champions League Group H game against FC Lokomotiv Moskva in his side's favour and led to an impressive 2-0 win.

'Changes worked'
With the score at 0-0, Terim replaced Hasan Sas with 18-year-old Mohammed Sarr and the Senegalese player took just two minutes to break the deadlock. Terim said: "In the second half I made some changes - I switched some players and it worked. But if I'd have known Sarr would score I'd have played him from the start."

'Under control'
Asked why he appeared so anxious during the second half, Terim explained: "At times we lost the initiative and I was nervous, but overall the game was under our control - it went exactly as planned, especially in the first half. We hoped Lokomotiv would make mistakes and eventually they did."

Arif again
One such lapse in concentration was a careless header by Vadim Evseev nine minutes from time, which allowed Ergün Penbe to set up Arif Erdem for his seventh goal in five games for Galatasaray.

Semin hopeful
But despite the defeat, Lokomotiv coach Yuri Semin believes his side can still qualify for the second group stage of the competition. He said: "We can still take second place in this group, as long as we compete in our remaining five matches." FC Barcelona and Club Brugge KV make up the four-team group.

'Lost in midfield'
The home side's coach added: "We lost the game in midfield - it was equal everywhere else on the pitch. It was a very nervy game and I always felt the first team to score would win. They [Galatasaray] used their scoring chances to greater effect, we didn't use those that we created. We tried long passes to [Ruslan] Pimenov and they were producing a little more. If this had been a Russian first division match we would have created far more, but not in the Champions League."
