Striking failure frustrates Ancelotti

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti conceded that FC Barcelona were now favourites to win their tie yet he refused to give up hope of reaching the final.

Carlo Ancelotti, Milan coach
Tonight we lost because we failed to convert our chances - they had few opportunities but scored one goal. Then, once they scored, they controlled the ball for a spell. They have a lot of talented players, but we performed well and Ronaldinho didn't give us that much to worry about despite hitting the post. I don't think we deserved to lose and we hope to be luckier in the second leg. Before the game I said we had a 50/50 chance of reaching the final - now they are favourites but we can still go through. We were expecting a game like this but my players performed well and all of them gave everything they had.

Frank Rijkaard, Barcelona coach
It is a massive result for us. I have to congratulate my players, who did a really good job against a very good team. All of them were excellent. Their attitude was perfect and I am delighted with the job they have done so far, although we have to keep our feet on the ground. I don't think Milan played badly - they caused us problems and created a few chances - but we started the game so well and took them by surprise.
