Fine record
"I'll try to help Benfica win every competition we enter," said the 26-year-old as he was presented to the media at the Estádio da Luz on Thursday night. Known as 'Kikin', Fonseca won two Mexican championships with Pumas UNAM before a 2005 move to Cruz Azul where he struck 25 goals in 48 games. He also boasts a fine record for Mexico, scoring 20 goals in 33 internationals including ten in eleven FIFA World Cup qualifiers and one in Germany, ironically against Portugal.
Three others
Benfica, who will learn their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round opponents on Friday afternoon, have also brought in AC Milan midfielder Rui Costa, Konstantinos Katsouranis from AEK Athens FC and the Boavista FC forward Paulo Jorge this summer.
