Postiga predicts Porto flurry

FC Porto's Hélder Postiga said he "can only improve in the weeks to come" after breaking his UEFA Champions League duck against Hamburger SV.

Having not scored in their opening UEFA Champions League Group G matches, FC Porto responded in style with a 4-1 home win against Hamburger SV last night that takes them to within two points of second-placed Arsenal FC with a trip to Germany to follow on 1 November.

Postiga first
The first and fourth goals were scored by Lisandro López while, to his relief, Hélder Postiga finally broke his UEFA Champions League duck at the 19th attempt and dedicated the second-half header to his team-mates and coach Jesualdo Ferreira. "It is very good to be scoring goals but it is down to the work of the entire team, not just me," Postiga said. "The coach has been, above all, a friend to me and I am trying to respond with goals."

Improvement continues
Voted man of the match by uefa.com users, Postiga has also scored four Liga goals in five games this season, following some disappointing campaigns. He is confident that things will get even better. "Now I have had a good run in the team I have adapted to the system and I think I am improving and can only improve more in the weeks to come," he said.

Lisandro joy
Lisandro has also endured criticism since joining Porto from Racing Club of Buenos Aires in 2005, but his two emphatic finishes are proof positive that he is coming to terms with his role in a formation he had not experienced in South America. "We are happy about our win, it is what we needed if we want to finish in the top two," he said. "This victory also gives the team a lot of confidence. I was used to playing in a two-man attack in Argentina, now I have to play with three or four, those are Porto's tactics. Many people said I was fat last year and couldn't run, but now I am proving myself."
