Mixed news for Milan pair

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti admits Paolo Maldini is struggling to be fit to face Manchester United FC next week although Gennaro Gattuso is expected play.

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti admits club captain Paolo Maldini is struggling to be fit to face Manchester United FC on Wednesday night although Gennaro Gattuso is expected to be available.

Long-term knee problem
Maldini had to be substituted at half-time in Milan's 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night having suffered a recurrence of a long-term knee problem. "He is slowly improving, but we need to wait until the swelling on his knee goes down," said Ancelotti, who had better news on the midfielder who was substituted early in the second period with a foot injury. "Gattuso is improving and should have no problems for Wednesday."

Inzaghi in contention
The Milan coach also hinted that veteran striker Filippo Inzaghi could replace Alberto Gilardino in attack. "Gilardino has only scored once in the Champions League. There's more pressure in the Champions League compared to the domestic league and Gilardino is not experienced enough to manage it yet. Inzaghi is in good condition and there is a good chance he could play on Wednesday."

Torino test
Milan are away to Torino FC in Serie A tomorrow as they continue their quest to confirm a UEFA Champions League qualifying place for next season. The Rossoneri are fourth, one point behind third-placed S.S. Lazio and six clear of Empoli FC in fifth.
