Robertson takes over at Derry

Derry City FC have appointed Scottish manager John Robertson to lead them two weeks ahead of their UEFA Champions League fixture at home to FC Pyunik.

Pyunik await
Derry have been without a manager since Pat Fenlon resigned in May and with their first qualifying round tie against FC Pyunik looming the club were under pressure to make an appointment. They have turned to Robertson, who will lead the side out against Cobh Ramblers FC in a League Cup match tonight, and arrives at a Derry team languishing in eighth place in the Irish Premier Division. Yet Robertson is confident he can turn things around. "I don't believe Derry City require major surgery; the club boasts quality players," said the 42-year-old.

'Challenge'
"I want to challenge for trophies and the time is perfect for a new personal challenge for me." Robertson, who parted company with Livingston FC in April, has signed an 18-month deal but will have just a fortnight to prepare the side for the first leg against Pyunik. He will be without Dave Rogers following his departure to Saint Patrick's Athletic FC, who have also signed midfielders Michael Keane and Billy Gibson.
