Borovski keen on Kaunas

Sergei Borovski has been appointed the new coach of Lithuanian champions FBK Kaunas.

Two-year contract
Borovski has signed a two-year deal having quit his job as coach of Belarussian side FC Torpedo-SKA Minsk. "We reached an agreement with Borovski on a two-year contract," said Kaunas director Romas Kontrimas. "The team has two aims - to retain the title and to reach at least the second qualifying round of the [UEFA] Champions League."

Baptism of fire
The 47-year-old's first game in charge will come on Friday against First Division leaders FK Ekranas. Kaunas, who have won the last four league titles, are four points behind Ekranas in second place in the table. Borovski, a former Soviet international and later coach of Belarus, replaced caretaker boss Romas Rudzevicius who will stay on as Borovski's assistant.

Sirmelis resigned
Rudzevicius took over in mid-May when Saulius Sirmelis resigned following a disappointing start to the season. Sirmelis, who lifted three championships with Kaunas, is now assistant to Lithuanian national coach Algimantas Liubinskas.
