Squillaci sticking with Monaco

AS Monaco FC defender Sébastien Squillaci has signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until 2007.

Long-term future
The French centre-back helped Monaco win the French League Cup and finish second in the championship last season - and has now committed his long-term future to the club.

'I am delighted'
"The club have been wanting me to do this for some time," said Squillaci, who turns 23 on 11 August. "But with all the problems they were experiencing, it was not their priority, and personally, I was not in a hurry. But now I have signed I am delighted as this is what I have wanted all along. This extension gives both me and the club more security."

Perfect start
Squillaci joined Monaco in 1998 from hometown club SC Toulon, but spent the 2000/01 and 2001/02 seasons on loan at AC Ajaccio before returning to the principality. Monaco made the perfect start to the new campaign last weekend with a 2-0 victory against FC Girondins de Bordeaux.
