Stars of UEFA EURO 2016: Balázs Dzsudzsák

With veteran Zoltán Gera playing deeper than he has in the past, Hungary are more reliant than ever on captain Balázs Dzsudzsák for attacking inspiration.

At a glance
An incisive winger, Balázs Dzsudzsák has been at the top of his game for nearly a decade, having first showcased his talents on the international stage against then world champions Italy, in August 2007. A consistent source of goals, the three-time Hungarian champion has been his country's captain while plying his trade with PSV Eindnoven, Anzhi, Dinamo Moskva and, now, Bursaspor in Turkey.

International pedigree
Improving with age. Dzsudzsák has gradually added more goals and assists to his game as he has settled into international football. Originally more of a creator – he laid on three goals in an 8-0 triumph over San Marino in 2010 – he has recently become known for his powerful shots from distance and set-piece prowess.

Importance for Hungary
Impossible to overstate. A pin-up of a player who is admired for his ability and for forging such a successful career outside of Hungary. With veteran Zoltán Gera now occupying a more deep-lying position in front of the back four, Bernd Storck's team are largely reliant on Dzsudzsák for attacking inspiration. The whole country, therefore, will be praying that the thigh strain he sustained last month will have fully recovered by the time of Hungary's first group stage game against Austria on 14 June.
