The Royal Belgian Football Association (URBSFA-KBVB) has announced that national team coach Georges Leekens has extended his contract by two years until summer 2014.

Leekens returned for a second spell leading the Red Devils last May, having previously managed the team at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, and has guided Belgium to second place in UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying Group A.

A URBSFA-KBVB statement said of the agreement: "This shows our appreciation for the work done and the good results achieved in recent times. We support the long-term vision of the coach, who wants to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil."

Of more immediate concern, though, is next summer's EURO as Belgium strive to reach a major tournament for the first time since 2002: they trail Group A leaders Germany by five points having played one game more. Their next fixture is at home to Turkey on 3 June.
