Belgium qualify for fifth EURO finals

A 4-1 victory in Andorra secured a fifth appearance for Belgium at the UEFA European Championship and it could get better for Marc Wilmots's men if they win Group B.

Belgium booked their place at UEFA EURO 2016 on a comfortable Saturday night in Andorra, where goals by Radja Nainggolan, Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard and Laurent Depoitre capped off an already impressive qualifying campaign.

Marc Wilmots's men have now overtaken Wales into top spot in Group B following the 4-1 win at the Estadi Nacional. It took the Red Devils to 21 goals from nine qualifiers, which includes a 6-0 home success against the Andorrans in the reverse fixture and a 5-0 dismantling of Cyprus. In fact, the only team to shut them out have been the Welsh, with a 0-0 draw in Brussels being a portent of Belgium's solitary group defeat, 1-0 in Cardiff in June.

Reaction
 Marc Wilmots, Belgium coach
It was an almost perfect evening. First, we do not have any injuries. Second, we got three points. And third, we have become group leaders because of Wales's defeat. There was only one mistake and that was conceding the goal. But we should not complain. We tried to play fast, two-touch football and to use the wings. My players did what I asked. I realise that everyone will want to play on Tuesday but I also have to give other players a chance. We did not always play great stuff, but we got the results and qualification.

Kevin De Bruyne, Belgium forward
We came here to win and that is what we did. It was not easy on this pitch – and also because of the opposition. But we achieved the desired result and that is what matters. There will not be much partying tonight, because on Tuesday there's another match and if we win, we will be group winners. The EURO is still a long way off, with a heavy season ahead. It means we have time to further develop this national team.

Dries Mertens, Belgium midfielder
We are delighted because it's a long time since Belgium last qualified for the European Championship, so there is a good feeling in the team. We came here for the three points and to qualify, but we still want to win on Tuesday and finish first in the group.
