Luc Holtz will look to become the first coach to avoid defeat against Spanish opponents with a side from Luxembourg as the European champions visit in UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group C.

Match background
• Luxembourg have lost all four of their previous matches against Spain – all friendly fixtures – but can take some encouragement from the fact that while they have yet to score against La Roja, they have only conceded seven times in the course of those games, including two 1-0 home defeats.

• Current Luxembourg coach Luc Holtz featured as a player in the sides' most recent meeting, a 1-0 win for Spain on 7 June 2000 in which the visitors failed to add to Gaizka Mendieta's second-minute opener.

• Luxembourg have won only one of their last six competitive home games (W1 D2 L3), 3-2 against Northern Ireland in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying.

• Spain went into their match against Slovakia having won their previous 14 qualifying away games since a 1-1 draw in Iceland in September 2007. They were unbeaten in 17 qualifying away matches (W16 D1) since their last defeat, a 2-0 in Sweden in October 2006. That run, of 36 qualifiers in the UEFA European Championship and FIFA World Cup without defeat, was ended by a 2-1 loss in Zilina.

• Spain have won all 13 of their meetings with Luxembourg in UEFA age-group competitions, and could make it 14 wins from 14 when the nations' Under-17 sides meet on 26 October.

• Unsurprisingly, the ten meetings between the nations' clubs in UEFA competitions have also all ended in Spanish wins.
