Bosnia and Herzegovina earned a play-off spot that keeps alive their UEFA EURO 2016 qualification bid as two strikes from Haris Medunjanin and another from Milan Djurić killed off Cyprus's hopes of progress despite goals from Nestor Mytidis and Constantinos Charalambides.

Medunjanin was without an international goal in over two years but ended his wait in style by scoring the first and last of four first-half goals, with Charalampos Christodoulou's team threatening to pull off a repeat of their 2-1 victory when the sides met over a year ago on matchday one. Substitute Milan Djurić then headed in the deciding goal on 67 minutes to assure Mehmed Baždarević's men of third place in Group B.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's all-time leading marksman Edin Džeko was only fit enough to make the substitutes' bench, but the visitors still appeared to have plenty of potency in attack. Medunjanin curled in brilliantly on 13 minutes with a first-time effort from just outside the area, before they fashioned another fine chance only for Vedad Ibišević to strike the outside of the post.

However, Cyprus looked equally dangerous and might have drawn level when Asmir Begović dropped a Vincent Laban free-kick, before the goalkeeper made amends by saving when Mytidis seemed certain to slot into a vacant net. The hosts did equalise with 32 minutes gone as Begović failed to keep out George Efrem's effort and Charalambides tapped in.

Mytidis put Cyprus ahead on 41 minutes as he met a low cross from Constantinos Makridis at the near post, before an unmarked Medunjanin crashed in Senad Lulić's centre to restore parity three minutes later.

Lulić provided another assist as Djurić capped off the scoring seven minutes after coming onto the pitch, rising above his marker at the back post to plant in a header that sealed his country's place in Sunday's play-off draw at the expense of Cyprus and Israel, who lost 3-1 in Belgium.
