Ukraine's all-time top scorer Andriy Shevchenko will join their coaching staff for UEFA EURO 2016 after the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) unveiled the back-room team for France this summer.

Shevchenko will work as the new international assistant to head coach Mykhailo Fomenko, who said: "The Ukrainian FA decided not to extend the deal with Olexandr Zavarov and, given this vacancy, we chose Shevchenko out of several candidates."

Shevchenko scored Ukraine's first EURO finals goals, in the 2-1 Kyiv win against Sweden back in 2012, and said: "I want to thank our national-team head coach for the chance he gave me. Today I am coming back to top-level football after a four-year break and I will do my best to repay the trust. Who do I believe to be the EURO 2016 favourites? Ukraine.

"Working with Valeriy Lobanovskiy, Carlo Ancelotti and José Mourinho is a great experience and I hope to use it in the best possible way," added Shevchenko, who claimed 48 goals in 110 games for his country. "The coaching courses that I have completed in Kyiv will help me to choose the right way but right now I am committed to fully devoting myself to the tasks that Mykhailo Fomenko sets for me."

Ukraine are in Group C at UEFA EURO 2016 together with Germany, Poland and Northern Ireland.
